Fighting Fire with Fire

I love this group. I love this music. I love this song. As awesome as they made it the lyrics are still very simplistic and thought provoking.
And now it's on
We're fighting fire with fire
The flames are burning, burning.
Higher and higher
It always has to be an eye for an eye
Justice remains the one and only desire
Fighting fire with fire
You do to me like I do to you
And I do to you like you do to me
Fighting fire with fire
Fighting fire with fire

The point of the song is the Golden Rule. We should treat others as we would want to be treated. So often though we do the opposite. We treat others the way they have treated us.
Matthew 7:12 (NLT) - "Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets."

(AMP) - "So then, whatever you desire that others would do to and for you, even so do also to and for them, for this is (sums up) the Law and the Prophets."

(MSG) - "Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them. Add up God's Law and Prophets and this is what you get."

I like what the Message Bible had to say. "Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them." Now, this is a highly paraphrased version of the Bible that is meant to grab the essence of what is being said rather than the actual translation.

But isn't that good? Grab the initiative. Don't wait for someone to do something nice for you before you are nice to them. Get there first. Be the one that opens doors for other people. Be that person who invites the new kid to sit with you at lunch. You hate washing dishes? So does everyone else. Be the one to step out in love by washing the dishes without complaint.

If we keep this mindset to reach out in love and be the person the practices the Golden Rule we will also be the person that people look at and see Jesus.

Something to think about.
