Such a Time as This...

Recently Chris and I went to go see “One Night with the King.” It’s a new movie in theaters that is about the story of Esther. I thought it was an awesome movie…of course my husband being the analytical type had to pick out all of the little discrepancies. However, as a Christian…and a woman I highly recommend it... That movie and some of my stray thoughts during my time with Jesus are the subject of this post. I was driving down the road (sometimes that’s the only time I can find to spend time with Jesus nowadays) and I was thinking about the movie.

I had always had a fascination with the way people lived in the past. Not just a thousand years ago but how they lived in Columbus’ day and in the civil war era. I had just always wondered how they got by without things like a shower or a hair dryer. Haha! On this particular day I was wondering why I wasn’t born then instead of now in this time period. I was a little selfish in my reasoning/thinking. If I was living in that era maybe I wouldn’t have to go to my boring 8-5 and listen to people complain on the phone all day. Haha!

Then Jesus in his infinite patient way told me that he put me here now because he has a plan and this is where I fit in. He put me here for a time such as this; it’s not an accident that I wasn’t born in medieval or colonial times, and between you and me, I’m glad I get to have a shower every day!
“For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?" Esther 4:14 (NIV)
It’s the same thing with everyone who reads this. Whether you know God or not, he put you here for a reason. He put you in this time for a reason. You were not an accident (no matter what the circumstances were surrounding your birth). You may never go down in a history book like Esther and they may never make a movie about your life. But if you are written in Christ’s book, that’s really the only one that matters anyway.
